New Year's Day

Last night I caught it with my tongue,
The
Just before midnight struck,
Last
As absolute zero barreled down,
Drop
And the old year, lachrymose to the last,
Tasted
Coagulated into solid ice;
Bittersweet
Today the morning thaw unleashed a torrent
Farewell
So fresh, so clear, so limitless, so new
& Greeting
It's easy to forget what was before, and yet
In one
No past is fossilized forever;
It flakes, melts, bleeds, capillary stains leak into the margins of the New
Year.
