Eternal Love, a poem dedicated to Kassandra Leiva and written in the backcountry of the Pine Barrens, NJ Imagine if our love were so eternal That birds began to nest in it And moss and lichen grew up on its sides; Imagine if our love were so eternal The river's gentle flow would slowly shape it Its waters feeding ever-sprouting shoots and leaves; Imagine if our love were so eternal It would replenish like a mountain spring And other loves would come to drink from it; But isn't our love, deer, a part of something too That's so much larger, older, wiser than ourselves? If only we can let that force flow through Perhaps one day the birds will nest in ours as well... |
